Schuylkill Courthouse is a Joke Right Now

With literally dozens of issues pressing the Schuylkill County Board of Commissioners and row offices, from the rise in crime to illegal immigration in the county, from unfair household assessments to burdensome taxes on a hurting working class, and from rising unemployment to ballooning government budgets, you’d think that our Schuylkill County government would have more to think about and act on than a couple of porcelain penguins. Well, you thought wrong.

Yesterday, the democrat-controlled Board of Commissioners held a press conference to discuss their decision about whether porcelain animal molds found in the recently sold 1912 building would be hauled off to the junkyard or given to other government departments for use for various projects. I am NOT kidding. Citing dangers from possible asbestos and lead contamination, Chairwoman Mantura Gallagher and Majority Commissioner Francis McAndrew declared that it would be unsafe to hand this leftover garbage to other agencies. Thank you, Commissioner Obvious.

I find it pretty damn sad that our Board of Commissioners believe the disposition of abandoned junk from a long vacated property is of such critical importance that a press conference needed to be held to tell us about it. Right now, we have the national media portraying our county as a racist backwoods area straight out of Deliverance. We have radical activists infiltrating our government buildings and interrupting criminal proceedings. We have developers wanting to put industrial facilities in residential areas. We have illicit drug distribution networks going up all over the county. Small businesses are closing. People are losing their jobs and are unable to find more work. We have teachers ready to strike. We have roads that are so disheveled they resemble desert paths in Iraq. We have young people getting in fights and killing other people on the streets. We have people desecrating churches and cemeteries. We have child molesters and rapists praying on the innocent. We have expensive new projects that are stalled by bureaucratic red tape and becoming more expensive by the second. We have crooked politicians handing contracts, permits, and favors to campaign contributors. We have many, many, many, many, more important problems to solve than whether to throw away some stupid statuettes!

But then again, I shouldn’t expect anything less from this administration. Since they took office a little more than 8 months ago, we have been witnesses to political backstabbing and catfights between the “BiPolar Controller” and nearly everyone else in the courthouse. We have seen cronyism and nepotism in the government actually increase. We have heard that a county executive just doesn’t like doing his job anymore. We have heard a majority commissioner call a local supervisor a loser. Lawsuits have been filed. Dollars are being flushed down the toilet. This democratic reign, in a short period of time, has quickly become one of the biggest disasters this county has every seen. And yet, they still somehow find a way to top themselves once again.

God help us!
