According to a recent post on The Bud Angst Report, freshly minted Schuylkill County Controller Melinda Kantner was reprimanded at a commissioner’s workshop meeting last week for being “out of order”. Kantner was informed by County Solicitor Eric Mika and Board Chair Mantura Gallagher, both fellow Democrats, that she was to be seen and not heard during workshops.
That’s news to the Clarke Report, considering that former County Controller, Gary Hornberger, was given free reign to discharge his duties during his entire tenure, usually to the chagrin of his fellow Republican commissioners who held the majority at the time. Maybe times really have “changed” under the Democratic leadership of Gallagher and Commissioner Francis McAndrew. The question is : Is effectively muzzling the county’s fiscal watchdog the type of change that the people of Schuylkill County bargained for?
